This little doll is quick and easy to do and turns out like a cute, fat gingerbread lady!

Knitted Doll.


With 4mm needles and Double knit (worsted weight) cast on 16 sts.
Work in stocking stitch throughout (knit one row, purl one row)
Work 20 rows
cast on 8 sts at beginning of next 2 rows
Work 8 rows.
Cast off 8 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.
Work 8 rows on these 16 sts.
Knit 8 sts and put remaining 8 sts on a holder.
Work 32 rows on these 8 sts and then place on a holder.
Break yarn and rejoin to 8 sts on holder.
Work 32 rows on these 8 sts.
Break yarn and put all 16 sts back on the needle
Rejoin yarn and work 8 rows on these 16 sts.
Cast on 8 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.
Work 8 rows.
Cast off 8 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.
Work 20 rows on the remaining 16 sts and then leave sts on a holder.

Making up

Fold in half lengthways right sides together so that cast on edge and edge with sts
left on holder meet.

Sew up side seams and seam between legs.

Turn right side out.

Stuff with flame retardant stuffing though hole left in top of head.

Thread a length of yarn through the 16 sts left on holder and continue round and
weave yarn through cast on edge.

Pull up yarn to gather like a purse string and secure.

Embroider face on doll.

Weave a length of yarn around the doll’s neck and pull up tight to create neck and
secure.

Take some yarn for hair and wrap around your fist appoximately 20 times.
Backstitch middle of loops of yarn to centre line on the head.
Cut the end loops and trim.

You can create clothes on the doll be changing colours of yarn as the body is knitted
or here is an optional, simple drawstring dress.

Make 2 pieces.

With 4mm needles and DK (WW) yarn, cast on 30 stitches.

Knit 4 rows and then continue working 10 rows in stocking stitch.

K2 tog at each end of 11th stocking stitch row
P2 tog at each end of 12th stocking stitch row.

Cast on 4 sts at beginning of next 2 rows (these 4 sts on either end should be knitted
on each row)

Continue with stocking stitch for 10 rows (keeping 4sts at either end in knit)

Cast off 10 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.

Knit 2 rows on remaining sts and then cast off.

Put the right sides of both pieces together and join side and shoulder seams.

When the dress is on the doll, thread a crocheted chain or ribbon approximately 14
to 16 in long through waist of dress and tie in a bow.
